Love Hurts
Half of British workers have taken time off to be with their lover, or because they have split up from a partner, according to new research.
A survey of 1,100 adults showed one in four had been absent from work when smitten with a new love.
A similar proportion took time off to recover from breaking up.
Online dating service parship.co.uk. says lovesickness is costing two million working days a year.
Workers in London took most time off to be with the new love of their life.
Those in Scotland were most likely to call in sick when getting over a split.
A psychiatrist said: "Many people experience symptoms similar to depression in the first days and weeks following a split.
"These might include sleeplessness, low mood and poor appetite.
"For most people these get easier over a few days or weeks, but for others problems can persist longer."
